The reissue of classical music masterpieces by Esoteric has attracted a lot of attention, both for its uncompromising commitment to recreating the original master sound, and for using Hybrid SACD technology to improve sound quality. This series marks the first Hybrid SACD release of two selections from EMI classics that have been mainstays of the catalog since their initial release on LP until the present digital age of CD. These new audio versions feature DSD mastering of the original recordings.

The criterion of remastering is to faithfully capture the quality of the original master tapes. Esoteric's flagship D/A converters, model D-01VU, Rubidium master clock generator model G-0Rb and Esoteric Mexcel interconnect cables and power cords were all used for this remastering session. This combination of highly advanced technology greatly contributed to capturing the high quality sound of the original master tapes.

Structures is a relaxed album of jazz standards and original compositions from the formidable trio of guitarist John Abercrombie, bassist Eddie Gomez and drummer Gene Jackson. This is the second of seven titles to be released as part of Chesky's The New York Sessions series. This new series features the greatest jazz musicians of today recorded with the company's state-of-the-art technology. It also aims to spotlight new artists who are creating fresh opportunities for the genre.

"(The) intimate approach produced sheer magic. Structures not only speaks of the remarkable chemistry of its participants but also presents a compelling argument for recording with less as opposed to more." – Bill Milkowski

Right from the very first hearing, absolutely every single jazz critic shared the same opinion - whether trained musicians or not, true or would-be jazz expert: A Love Supreme is John Coltrane's most important recording. And the rave reviews which appeared in the magazines Downbeat, Jazz Hot, Jazz Podium and Swingjournal reflected this: critics all over the world, in America, Europe and Japan recognized that Coltrane's deep religious belief had influenced both his approach to life and his music-making. It not only enabled him to express himself with great intensity but also lent him the necessary inner peace to conceive a work of almost 40 minutes in length and to lead his quartet along the same path as himself.

Recorded in 1964.

Mastered by Kevin Gray.

John Coltrane, tenor saxophone
Jimmy Garrison, bass
Elvin Jones, drums
McCoy Tyner, piano
John Hammond's blues career has spanned the better part of the last five decades. From coffeehouses to concert halls, to festivals and beyond, Hammond emerged the ever-consummate blues man out of the great blues renaissance of the '60s. And while the 60's renaissance was largely an electric affair, Hammond has managed to keep vital the embodiment of the quintessential acoustic blues troubadour with brilliant acoustic guitar and rack harmonica playing and an impassioned voice. A Grammy Award winner and four-time nominee, Hammond is also a multiple W.C. Handy Award winner and has shared the stage and/or recorded with many of the masters, including Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker and Howlin' Wolf.

John Lee Hooker himself did not know his exact date of birth. If he hadn't died at around the age of 80, this ageless musician would still be easily pulling the next generation to his gigs. Hooker remains a phenomenon, a mysterious figure of black rhythm and blues, a charismatic king who reigns supreme in rock 'n' roll's Hall of Fame. John W. Peters described his music as a synthesis of scorching emotional ardour, unrelenting rhythmic intensity, and original poetry of a highly personal character. Anyone hearing him for the first time may well be startled at the unfiltered passion and power of his music.

And another surprise is in store for those who compare Hooker's late recordings with those made in the Sixties. His unmistakable, raw voice has fully matured, but his incantory style of singing appears markedly finer and more flexible. And then there is the perfect gem of a rhythm group whose sinewy sounds fill the grooves with merciless gravitational force. It's enough to make your spine tingle!

Mastered by Kevin Gray.

John Lee Hooker, guitar, vocals
David "Panama" Francis, drums
Joe Galbreath, guitar
Milt Hinton, bass
William Wells, trombone
